a Volunteer Based Organization

The VFC is run by an all volunteer Board of Directors and is dependent on volunteer veterans and veteran supporters for all aspects of our operation. We play a unique and critical role in a coordinated effort to move homeless veterans off of the street and return them to society. We receive nothing in return other than the satisfaction of knowing we have made a difference in the lives of those who have served our country and then fallen into the trap of homelessness.
We have volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups, on a one time basis, or, like many of our volunteers, on a repeated basis.

The VFC has recently reorganized to improve our operations. We need help to move forward and better serve those who have honorably served our country and now need our help. All these positions are unpaid volunteer positions, usually requiring no more than 10-15 hours a month. Most can be done primarily from home on your schedule. You don’t need to be an expert; we will show you what needs to be done. Please join us in our efforts, working closely with the VA, to end veteran homelessness.

                                            HIGHILIGHTED OPPORTUNITIES indicate immediate needs.

Deliveries

There is no better way to learn about the VFC and the work we do than to join us for deliveries and meet our needy veterans. Each Friday morning a group of volunteers gathers at the warehouse, loads the trucks, and delivers furniture and household goods to needy veterans. No heavy lifting is required unless you want to do that. We always need drivers for chase cars to follow the trucks. as well as people to carry small, light weight items. Everyone who has done this tells us what a great, heart warming experience it is, and many comeback to do it again and again.  Deliveries are usually completed by noon, so it doesn't even take much of your day.  This is also a great volunteer opportunity for a group.

Event Planning/Organization Team

This team will work with our Event Coordinator to plan and organize future events. These include events at local restaurants, in partnership with local businesses, possible community events, and golf tournaments.  Putting on events is both rewarding and fun, and it is an important part of our fund-raising activities to help our veterans

Grant Procurement Team Members

The VFC requires considerable funding each year, primarily to purchase the items our veterans need. The majority of this comes from grants from Foundations, Corporations, and Government agencies. Grants must be applied for though formal grant requests. The VFC is looking for one or two additional volunteers to work on our grant procurements team, researching grant opportunities, developing grant requests, and tracking grant applications. Experience preparing grant applications is helpful, but not required. Volunteers should have writing skills and be familiar with the use on on-line searches. Training in Grant Procurement will be provided. This function requires about 10-20 hours of volunteer time a month and can be done from home on your own schedule.

Videographer

The VFC Events and Operations are rich in video story telling opportunities. The VFC has produced in the past which are posted on the website a Facebook page. We are looking for a volunteer to develop, shoot, edit, and produce new, compelling videos for our website and social media outlets.

Social Media Team Members

The VFC has a rudimentary Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/VFC2319. Our goal is to improve upon this and extend our outreach to other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others. We need volunteers to work on a social media team to plan and execute an effective social media strategy for the VFC. Experience on one or more of these platforms and the ability to create compelling social media content is required.

Market Collateral Editor

The VFC maintains a set of marketing collateral (flyers, mailers, and forms) that are used to events and meetings. These items need to be kept current and appealing. In addition, each event requires a special flyer advertising the event. The VFC is seeking a volunteer with good writing, graphics, and computer skills to create and maintain our marketing collateral. This position requires only 2-10 hours a month and can all be done from home. Current documents and available graphics will be provided. The VFC Executive staff will provide information and document review.

Volunteer coordinator

With our expansion of volunteers, we need a volunteer to serve as the volunteer coordinator reporting to the Executive Director. This individual will maintain the contact list for all VFC volunteers, both those who hold regular volunteer positions and those who help out on occasion when needed. The Volunteer Coordinator will assist the Executive Team with defining and developing volunteer positions, recruiting, and coordination volunteer activities. The position requires a few hours a week on average and most work can be performed from home. Occasional attendance at meetings may be required.
